Stanley CohenReport number: 02157448
Victim: Stanley Cohen, 51 years old
Location: 3401 Miller

Synopsis:
On March 3, 2002, Stanley Cohen was found deceased inside his place of business, the S&S Auto Parts Store at 3401 Miller Avenue. The business had been ransacked and there were indications of a violent struggle. He died as a result of gunshot wounds. It was apparent that the crime took place shortly after the business had closed that Sunday  afternoon. One of the trucks from the business had been stolen, and was later found in the parking lot of the Minyard’s Food Store at the intersection of E. Berry Street and Miller Avenue.

I might just add that it was believed by some of his friends that Stanley let some people in after closing hours who claimed to have car trouble.  That would be just like Stanley, always friendly and eager to help people in need, not thinking about the danger. Last time I saw him Van Green and I visited him at his big two-story house. He had a collection of baseball memorabilia, Civil War prints, and had fixed up a special master bedroom for his future wife that he had yet to meet. He wanted to marry and settle down and raise a family.

I saw Stanley at Tom Thumb just before he was murdered. We were in line buying tickets for some show or event, I don't remember. He was still his old sweet, gentle self. I felt so good after seeing him and then.........He ran a store in a neighborhood where others didn't want to be and served customers that others didn't want to serve and this horrible thing happened to him.

I went from nursery school, through Sunday School, Confirmation, and High School with Stanley. He was a sweetheart of a guy who ALWAYS had a kind word and a smile to give. The world was somewhat diminished with his passing. Senseless violence took him away, and I can only hope that the perpetrators of the heinous act that claimed his life will someday be brought to justice!
