Marilu Daughtry Grape: A Life Well-Lived

Marilu Daughtry Grape, lovingly known as Lu, passed away on September 19th, 2024, at the age of 74. Born on May 13th, 1950, in Fort Worth, Texas, Marilu called the city her lifelong home. She was a proud graduate of R.L. Paschal High School in 1968 and continued her education at Texas Tech University, where she pledged Phi Mu Sorority. Later, she earned her degree in Business Education from Texas Wesleyan University.

In 1971, Marilu married the love of her life, Rick Grape, and together they built a beautiful family with their son, Roderich (Sparky) Grape, and two beloved grandchildren, Evelyn and Pearson. Family was always at the heart of Marilu’s world. Her dedication to them was unwavering, and she was a constant source of support, encouragement, and love.

Marilu and Rick were a dynamic duo in both life and business. They worked side by side designing homes and commercial buildings, sharing not only a career but a passion for restoring automobiles. Marilu was also the number one cheerleader for her family’s involvement in professional motorsports, attending events with enthusiasm and pride.

An accomplished athlete, Marilu was a competitive swimmer and tennis player during her high school and college years. She spent her summers as a lifeguard at the Jewish Community Center, a role that perfectly suited her love of the water and her vibrant, outgoing spirit.

One of Marilu’s greatest joys was staying connected with her friends from the Paschal Class of ’68. She cherished these relationships and was known for her warmth and loyalty. Those who knew her will always remember her as a vibrant, devoted friend, wife, mother, and grandmother whose energy and love of life were truly contagious.

Marilu Grape leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. She will be dearly missed but forever remembered for the light she brought into the lives of all who knew her.

A celebration of life will be held at Bourbon Street Bar and Grill Restaurant, 1833 Airport Freeway, in Bedford,  on Saturday, October 12 from five o'clock to 7 pm.  Please come by and share your memories of Lu with friends and family.

Lu was a very special person. She didn’t ask for much in a friendship but gave her all. She definitely had a servants heart.  Lu was always happy to do whatever we dreamed up at any particular moment in time. Great memories!

Prayers for her family and all who knew and loved her.
Rest in Peace, Sweet Friend!
